"Alphabets of the Stage: Body, Voice, Rhythm" is an intensive training for performers that has been taught by Chorea in Eastern Europe, the UK, Greece, Germany, France and the Netherlands. The workshop is seven hours a day for six days with the culminating public event on the seventh day hosted by REDCAT. With the goal of integrating voice, body, text and rhythm, the workshop is based on Chorea Theater's international investigation of both ancient and contemporary theater forms. The physical training uses acrobatics, complex exercises in rhythm, partner and choral work, as well as singing and extended vocal techniques. Fragments from ancient Greek texts ("Antigone" by Sophocles, "The Bacchae" by Euripides, Delphic Paeans) and traditional songs from different cultures will serve as material for study and presentation. Open to professional singers, actors, dancers. The workshop is free, and open to 15-20 participants.

Mission

Artistic Director, Rosanna Gamson convenes skilled dancers, singers, actors, musicians and visual artists from eclectic backgrounds and diverse countries to create exciting new collaborations. Weaving our different skills, cultural traditions, and points-of-view into a multi-layered vision, we make sumptuous, entertaining and provocative dance theater that reflects the complexity of living in the world together today.

The projects of RGWW are supported, in part, by a grant from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs and by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
